Anna Wille is an Austrian-born artist living and working in London. Her practice in sculpture and performance proposes the object as a mediator between the body and its surroundings, a point of contact that draws us into closer relation with the world around us.
At its centre is a desire to stay close to materials, to let them be felt as well as seen. Clay is the ground of her sculptural work, while in performance she turns to materials sourced from nature. Her forms are drawn from plants, landscapes, stones and skin: the shapes they take, the sensations they hold, and the way they change over time. She intervenes sparingly, allowing each material to keep its own character.
Through repetition, construction and deconstruction, she explores the tension between fragmentation and wholeness, letting rupture and harmony sit within a single form. Body and place leave marks on one another, and the work lives in that exchange.
Each work is an invitation to approach, to linger, and to feel.
